What Happens When You Perform Comedy At Your Own Child's School?
12th November 2012
“The school thought it would be nice if…” are words that send terror into the heart of any parent, because they’re usually followed by cheerful commands such as:
“Your child comes to school tomorrow dressed in a hand embroidered armadillo costume for International Reptile Awareness Day” or “You help your child create a tableau of the battle of Waterloo in Rice Krispies for their cross-curricular food and history project”.
For a millisecond I rail against the impossibilities of being a working mother and the injustice of having to spend an evening with Pritt stick rather than Homeland
…. but then I see my childr…

Why comedy? Why I ask? Or rather they ask. Such a nice girl like you…..
Here is my not so quick answer. It all started when I was around four. I discovered that if you did something funny, most people would laugh. Like on TV. I also soon discovered that the same thing that made some people laugh would not make others laugh and potentially end up with a spanking or a motherly scowl. This is what Lynne had to say about Ministry of Mum: “Fabulous writing, clean and simple lay out, no vi…

19th June 2012
My name is Courtney and I use comedy as therapy.

I could sulk off and drown my woes in whole nut dairy milk but as I am dairy intolerant this would make matters worse for all concerned. Instead, I write jokes, use sarcasm, replay scenarios with people who have annoyed me in a comedy genre directed by, oh let’s say Woody Allen.
If I get really annoyed, I slip into Kubrik but that isn’t too often. I get frustrated easily, wound up and then feel all of Great Britain is against me because I’m a doey eyed Canadian. A Canadian who doesn’t…
