Day 25 at the Fringe

Our final day at the Fringe has arrived; much to our surprise as we have often felt like this day would never make an appearance. A rollercoaster of emotions, we have experienced so many great things in Edinburgh this month and have had the time of our lives. A tough Fringe for everyone involved, the Funny Women team have faced challenges but have always come together at the end to get things done and to make sure that everyone is having fun!

Officially into the last weekend of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Funny Women team are starting to expel sighs of relief that we have all managed to survive the month! Over the past few weeks Edinburgh has really become our home and going back will probably take some acclimatisation.

For every Friday we have been in Edinburgh, Funny Women has hosted Comedy Cocktail Hour at Harvey Nichols, Edinburgh. We know that Ben is a man, but a few of the Funny Women Team saw his show and, even before it got nominated for a Fosters Best Newcomer Comedy Award, we were all singing his praises. We like a man who is in touch with his feminine side and any man who is brave enough to wear pink frilly knickers and tights, get sprayed in pink paint and take to the streets of Edinburgh with his entire audience in tow, deserves five lips! - Ed.

This is a show that cannot be categorized. It's not stand up. It's not theatre. It's not performance art. And yet it's all of these things.

Review - Sharron Matthews Superstar: Gold

This is one of those shows that sum up the art of Performance, with a capital ‘P’. Sharron is 100% Performer with a capital ‘P’ and a huge stage presence, even in the confines of the Pleasance Above.

Sharron straddles her audience with her big brash Canadian personality – all gold, glitter and glory for one highly entertaining hour. This is a ‘must see’ show and apologies for reviewing so late in the Fringe, just get along now if you are still up here. There are some acts who are just lovely to listen to and make even the hardest hitting material sound like a breezy ‘walk in the park’. Katherine is just one such funny woman who we’ve loved since she won the Awards in 2008.

Having a baby and dealing with divorce have not diminished her sunshiny style and, if anything, makes her almost impossibly positive in a potential wasteland of self-deprecation and sorrow! Katherine has battled cancer and suffers from lupus – what’s not to smile about?!
