Beyonce: The Mrs. Carter Show
3rd May 2013
What was my opinion on the Mrs. Carter Show, I hear you cry. Well, it’s a pants tour name for a start. Was Queen Bey so busy overseeing her empire, birthing a child (whom I have an extremely unhealthy fascination with) and penning the likes of 'Independent Women' and 'Single Ladies', that she just completely missed the female emancipation memo…?
But moving swiftly on: her vocal abilities - she opens her mouth and harp-strumming angels soar out. Her dancing - she can gyrate faster than a pneumatic drill, it's a vision to behold. I bet she can do an entire Insanity workout without even breaking a sweat. Her beauty – breath taking. There is simply n…

‘Gender-balanced leadership teams are more productive, deliver better results and reflect customers’ needs,’ so says recent research. Given that Funny Women is dedicated to helping women to perform, write and do business with humour to give them a voice personally and professionally, we naturally concur. I was delighted therefore to be a guest last night at the launch of ‘The Little Book of Diversity’, a practical guide to supporting women in the workplace.
The book is packed full of tips, ideas, and case studies from companies including McDonald’s, PepsiCo, Shell and IBM – all organisations that promote gender diversity within their man…

Funny Women hit the heady heights of academia when we were invited to take part in Cambridge Wordfest’s 11th spring festival. On Saturday 13th April, we hosted a workshop and a showcase of some great female comedy, the likes of which have never been seen at such a literary gathering before!
The day kicked off with a ‘Stand Up to Stand Out’ workshop in St. John’s College hosted by Lynne Parker, where 16 Cambridge women discovered how the techniques of stand-up can help them build confidence for both business and everyday life. The workshop got fantastic feedback with two participants raring to do more - our next Workshop Weekend takes place in London on 18…

What was I thinking when I signed up for the Funny Women Workshop Weekend? Lord only knows; if I crack a funny, people are far more likely to keel over in shock rather than laughter. But in my new quest for opportunities to step out of my comfort zone, signed up I had. And frankly the fear of humiliation in admitting I’d bottled it outweighed (only marginally mind) my fear of actually attending a weekend of ... well to be honest I wasn’t really sure what the weekend would hold.
I had been too scared to read the itinerary in detail. The gig had been billed as a ‘two-day course packed full of advice and techniques for getting the best out of yourself’; that was e…

We all wonder about our neighbours. From Ayckbourne’s comedies to Desperate Housewives to Hollyoaks, there’s a fascination about what goes on behind closed doors. Marlborough Road, a new play from All Things Nice Productions, currently on at the Hen and Chickens manages to combine elements of all three served up with a Skittles vodka shot - literally, as party girl Mel (played with relish by author Natasha May) greets the settling audience with a pre-show beverage.
Jane was a lawyer. Now she’s a stay-at-home mum with a new baby and a husband who’s never there, making it the perfect time to get to know the neighbours by hosting an informal ‘meet…
