Can Pretty Women be Funny?

While taking acting classes in LA, I told my teacher that I wanted to work in comedy and asked how to go about it. She looked me straight in the eye and said, ‘Niki you have to prove you’re funny - you don’t bring funny into the room’. Asking her what parts could I play she bluntly said, ‘prostitute or slut’. I was let down, and down right pissed off!

The Musical Comedy Awards final was held on the 19th, and we were awfully pleased to offer our support to the funny women showing their stuff throughout the competition. The hilarious Mae Martin and Carly Smallman both did excellent sets in Saturday's final.
Our Funny Women founder, Lynne Parker, also presented the 2011 MCA Best Newcomer Award to Daisy D'Agostini, who's quirky songs reflecting on the woes of being a modern woman charmed and amused the judges. To commemorate 100 years of International Women’s Day, Funny Women are challenging five prominent business women – Sue Granik, Annie Burns, Mairi McHaffie, Jacqueline Hancher andJobeda Ali - to perform three minutes of stand up comedy for the first time to a paying audience.
The event was held in partnership with Hoxton Apprentice Professional Women’s Network which brings together like-minded women executives who subscribe to the Network motto: ‘There’s a special place in hell for any who doesn’t help another woman’. Pan Asian Showcase Success

Saturday afternoon saw our Funny Women Pan Asian comedy showcase in association with PAWA (Pan Asian Women’s Association) at the WOW (Women of the World) Festival, Soutbank Cente.
What better place to carry out a show than in a room with spectacular views of the London Eye! An eclectic mix of comedic talent joined forces to bring an afternoon of hilarity covering subjects ranging from fussy mothers to seeking asylum.
