Home territory heat supports local charity

Home territory heat supports local charity

30th June 2011

We're on home territory this coming Sunday in more ways than one.  We're bringing the next heat of this year's Funny Women Awards back to one of our favourite venues, the Orange Tree Theatre, in our home town of Richmond upon Thames and proceeds from the show will go towards supporting locally based charity The Victoria Foundation, which was set up to improve the lives of those in the area.

It is very much a 'home grown' effort as we share office space with The Victoria Foundation and are much indebted to the support of chief executive Graham Ball and development director Lorna Votier who really support our ethos and help us to promote our shows in Richm…

Feel the Burn

Feel the Burn

29th June 2011

This weekend I performed at three Race For Life events in Richmond. I followed the sea of pink ladies to Old Deer Park and did my usual 10 minutes on stage in my big fat gypsy tutu and got myself ready to join in with the walkers (perhaps next year I will graduate to the joggers section?!).

It was quite nice weather for it - not too hot and a little windy. In fact, when I was on stage I mentioned that I may 'blow off' which caused a few giggles. I reassured them that I didn't mean it in the baked beans sense!

In the onstage warm-up there was a group of cheerleaders, and I suggested we should make a human pyramid with me on top – later on they lifted me…

Fringe Benefits

Fringe Benefits

28th June 2011

We’re returning for three-week run at the Edinburgh Fringe this year after a few years of ‘just visiting’.  Since we changed the schedule for the Funny Women Awards to accommodate the summer festival season with the competition semies and final in September, we’ve run heats during the Fringe for the last two years but not a full programme.  This year we plan to showcase some of the fantastic talent we’ve discovered through the Funny Women Awards and beyond with a run of shows and workshops from 3rd to 21st August at 2.40pm daily at Assembly George Square Three.

Due to the closure of the Assembly Rooms on George Stree…

Oh no, a plateau?

Oh no, a plateau?

24th June 2011

After a week of being really good on the JanePlan diet and swimming and completing a 5k Race For Life and feeling confident of a few pounds weight loss: my Wii Fit tells me I've stayed the same...confused.com!  Ok, so I did have a roast dinner after the event with my mum but even she said I looked like I'd lost weight and my flatmate who hadn't seen me for a couple weeks thought I looked slimmer! (Editor’s note: She totally does. AM)

I told Jane and she said that what mattered was that I felt better, and maybe the exercise had effected what the scales had to say, and encouraged me to keep going.  I have felt better being in the diet 'zone'…

Plymouth, ho!

Plymouth, ho!

22nd June 2011

It was an early start on Sunday to get to Race For Life on the Plymouth Hoe for 11am.  I was doing a spot onstage and the local paper had 'bigged me up' before the event so I was hoping that some old friends would come and support me as well as my family. I took part in the event too (my 3rd so far this year) and I had been really good on my Janeplan diet all week under the watchful eye of my mum...I even turned down a free pasty - not easy for a Devon girl! For this special occasion my clever mum even made me a brand new pink tutu and I bought a new pink Snuggie in case it got chilly (I do have some blanket with sleeves jokes too so I'm not entirely crazy!).
