SKY Sponsors Comedy Writing Award

We are excited to announce that Europe’s leading Pay TV broadcaster, SKY has been announced as sponsoring the first-ever Funny Women Comedy Writing Award. Sky will commission 30 minutes of scripted programming from the winner – a fantastic foot in the door for any comedy writer.

I know the weather hasn’t been that hot… but our heats have been ‘smokin’!’’(Please excuse me, I re-watched The Mask recently). Seriously though, I have had so much fun working on these heats. Almost every weekend I’ve been at a heat, I can guarantee you there will be an LOL after my status on facebook. I’m literally getting paid to do what I love the most…wait, isn’t that what porn stars say? TV psychologist, Dr. Linda Papadopoulos is joining the judging panel for the national final of the Funny Women Awards on Monday 26^th September at the Leicester Square Theatre.

Dr Linda is one of the most well-known and respected psychologists working in the UK today and her career as a research scientist and practicing psychologist spans over 14 years, which has given rise to a high profile media-career. I am delighted to be invited to present my show, ‘Streets in the City’ at the Edinburgh Fringe Funny Women showcase on 4^th August this year. It has been five years since I last performed at Edinburgh - but busy since - and booking my flights has resurrected some memories.

Surviving Actors provides events throughout the year to help actors sustain themselves in a notoriously difficult profession. This is the second event that Funny Women has been involved with and the convention in Manchester this coming Saturday will fall into three categories - develop, create and sustain.
