Festive Greetings!

Festive Greetings!

22nd December 2011

We've had an incredible year - complete with its ups and downs.  We have had a wonderful time meeting some hugely talented women from all over the UK and beyond and look forward to meeting more of you next year during which we will be celebrating 10 glorious years!

2012 promises to be an actioned packed year with the Olympics and all that this brings with it, including the Cultural Olympiad. We'll be making sure that our programme of London Nights, Brighton Nights, charity and festival showcases, Challenges and workshops, are seen alongside the best of British culture.

We think of comedy as an important art form and that culture is a direct reflectio…

Sisters are doing it for themselves

Sisters are doing it for themselves

20th December 2011

'Sisters are doing it for themselves' But are they doing it for each other?

Since leaving the intimate womb of the Australian cabaret scene I have been thrust back into the UK theatre world where men dominate. They are the directors, the artistic directors and the producers. These are the hairy beasts I am grappling with to get my name known, to get my show seen.

I am in the boys club shouting louder, being fiercer and occasionally donning a moustache (not entirely fake) to get myself heard. Apparently, I am not the only one. The workshop took place in a dark tiny cavern like theatre just off Leicester Square. A mixed bunch of women of all ages…

Sarah Millican Wins her Crown

Sarah Millican Wins her Crown

19th December 2011

Sarah Millican was crowned the 'Queen of Comedy' in the British Comedy Awards on Friday. She follows hot on the heels of Miranda Hart who took the throne last year and no doubt celebrated in her trademark down to earth way with a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake!

Women have always been funny and their ability to win popularity with television audiences is strangely at odds with the continuing ‘boys club’ attitude of the live comedy circuit.  What Sarah demonstrates so well is that you really have to be well and truly IN it to WIN it.  A focused work ethic and a goal is what you need to succeed in the highly competitive world of comedy,…

WRITE ON! For Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust

WRITE ON! For Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust

19th December 2011

The past few years have seen a reverse in the downward trend of cervical cancer screening, thanks in no small part to the sterling work of Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, a charity that raises awareness by supporting women and their families affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities.  If caught early, survival rates are high, and it is estimated that around 5,000 lives are saved every year through these interventions to prevent cancer developing.

That is why we are delighted to support them with WRITE ON!- a night of comedy at the Leicester Square Theatre on Sunday 22nd January, presented by our friends Women in Journalism.  Featuring Shazia Mirza, …
